Cheat Mountain Salamanders are listed as Threatened by the US Fish & Wildlife Service. They inhabit moist, high-elevation forests with a high concentration of red spruce, eastern hemlock, and yellow birch. They can only be found in West Virginia and their largest threat is habitat loss. The extent of their range includes the entirety of the Corridor H Parsons to Davis Project Area.
